Creating an independent single transmission system operator (TSO) for all offshore wind projects across the North Sea – while at the same time introducing competition in the construction of offshore grid links – could cut transmission prices and construction delays, suggested Samuel Leupold, Dong Energy’s vice president for wind power.

“In an increasingly meshed interconnectivity in the North Sea, to harvest the full potential of offshore wind, there needs to be a discussion whether there is room for a single independent grid operator in the North Sea,” Leupold said ahead of a ceremony in Berlin on Thursday for the official inauguration of the 582MW Gode Wind 1&2 arrays.
