Power giant ABB will premiere a 66kV transformer that can fit into the tower of a wind turbine, in the quintet of MHI Vestas V164 machines being installed at EDF’s 41.5MW Blyth demonstration project off northeast England.

The WindStar technology, developed in anticipation of the industry’s shift from a 33kV standard towards high voltage in all offshore infrastructure, is also in the frame for 11 turbines at Vattenfall’s 92.4MW
