UK technology development body the Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Catapult has formed a £2.3m ($2.9m) research tie-up with the University of Bristol to fashion blade designs for the next generation of ultra-large-scale offshore wind turbines.
Phase one of the Wind Blade Research Hub (WBRH), set up as a five-year partnership, will focus on improvement to materials and manufacturing technology, blade design and performance, that will help shape the coming 13-15MW class offshore machines.
