As a stand-off that has halted the signing of renewable power deals in South Africa threatens to drag into 2018, a developer with projects delayed by the impasse told Recharge the situation is harming the country’s profile as an investment destination.

The South African Renewable Energy Council (SAREC) said it was “deeply disturbed” after an inter-governmental taskforce this week failed to signal any immediate progress on the refusal of state-controlled utility Eskom to sign power purchase agreements (PPAs) relating to 2015’s Round 4 of the country’s REIPPPP renewables procurement programme.
