Floating wind power will take off much more rapidly than anticipated only a few years ago, with reductions of some 25% by 2030 in the technology’s levellised cost of energy, according to a new report from European industry body WindEurope.

The report, Unleashing Europe's Offshore Wind Potential,  launched at last week’s OWE2017 event in London, highlights the 4,000GW of resource off Europe that that could be factored into the wider sector, ultimately generating as much as 6,000TWh per year at a competitive cost – €65/MWh ($72.90/MWh)
