Hopes for a stable UK policy environment as the country maps its future clean energy strategy and enters Brexit negotiations took a knock as the country’s general election saw the ruling Conservative party lose its overall majority in Parliament.

The 8 June election – called by Prime Minister Theresa May in a bid to strengthen her position ahead of Brexit talks – backfired as the Conservatives remained the largest party but won fewer seats than they held before, and will need to rely on support from a small rump of Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) members of parliament (MPs) from Northern Ireland to form a working government.
