Competition to transmission system operator (TSO) TenneT in delivering German North Sea offshore grid links may be a way to push down offshore wind prices further, a member of the government of the city state of Bremen told Recharge.

“With the [German] offshore wind tender, we have seen how a market-based system leads to game changing prices,” Ronny Meyer, Bremen’s state counsellor for environmental affairs, said on the sidelines of an event at Offshore Wind Energy 2017 organised by Bremen and Lower Saxony states, which both share access to Germany’s North Sea coasts.
