The relatively unknown renewables developer Forestalia secured this month the go-ahead to build 1.2GW of wind energy in Spain, following the auction that marked the country’s return to large-scale renewable energy procurement and saw record-low onshore prices of €43/MWh ($47.9/MWh).

The company, which was established only six years ago by local businessman Fernando Samper Rivas, took more than a third of the capacity available under the tender, lining up US turbine supplier GE as its “technical partner”.
