Industry officials are concerned that a bill just approved by the House of Representatives in Texas prohibiting the local government from offering tax breaks for wind farms near military bases could jeopardize billions of dollars of investment in the state.

The bill, which applies to new wind projects within a 25-nautical mile (46.3km) buffer zone around facilities used by “fixed-wing” aircraft, could result in private landowners losing out on millions of dollars of yearly lease payments.
