Batteries will not solve the transmission constraints facing the US wind industry anytime soon, says Ben Fowke, CEO of Xcel Energy, which has more wind capacity on its system than any other US utility.
Batteries are “interesting technologies”, Fowke told reporters yesterday at AWEA Windpower. “But I think they’ve got a ways to go [on price], particularly in relatively low-cost markets like the ones we serve.”
