The American Wind Energy Association will not ask Congress for any more extensions of the wind production tax credit (PTC), AWEA chief executive Tom Kiernan confirms.

That leaves the PTC – the bedrock of the US wind market for a quarter-century – set to expire for good after 2019, after phasing down over the next few years.

The PTC, worth an inflation-linked $24/MWh for wind generation for a period of 10 years, was authored by Republican Iowa Senator Charles Grassley, and enacted in the Energy Policy Act of 1992.
