France’s newly-elected President Emmanuel Macron has named renewables-enthusiast and green activist Nicolas Hulot as the new energy minister.

Hulot, a well-known environmentalist and supporter of the development of renewable energy in France, will take over from Ségolène Royal, who held the top role at the Ministry of Energy, Ecology and Sustainable Development (MEEM) under the previous government.

Hulot will now head a renamed Ministry of the Ecological and Solidarity-based Transition under Macron’s new government.
