France's EDF Energies Nouvelles (EDF EN) strengthened its international wind footprint with a deal to buy a majority stake in developer and independent power producer Futuren.

The EDF renewables unit will take a 67% holding in Paris-based Futuren under the terms of the deal, which followed a competitive bidding process.

As of January, Futuren operated 746MW of wind power, 389MW of its own and the rest for third parties.
