Floating wind power pioneers Glosten and Gicon have formed a strategic business collaboration aimed at developing an “optimum” tension leg platform (TLP) foundation for offshore turbines operating in water depths of 20-500 metres in regions around the world.

US engineering outfit Glosten, which completed a front-end engineering and design study in 2014 for a full-scale 6MW demonstrator of its PelaStar concept, and Germany’s Gicon, which has completed its studies for a full-scale 6-8MW construction, with a smaller scale version to be tested in the Baltic Sea, expect the co-operation deal to advance each design and “open the door for potential hybrid solutions to evolve”.
