International technical certification group UL has launched turbine life extension services in Brazil, saying the country’s 11GW market is now considered mature and needs to improve the performance of its wind farms.

“The quality of the wind in Brazil is very good, as we see from the high capacity factors of 50%. But now the wind sector needs to look at improving performance in a country which will see the growth of its wind power market slow down for the lack of tenders,” said Alexandre Pereira, director of the Brazilian unit of UL DEWI that was acquired by UL in 2012.
