Italian developer Enel’s 111MW Gibson Bay wind farm has starting flowing electricity onto the grid in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa.

The development, which is powered by 37 Nordex N117/3000s, is capable of generating around 420GWh a year, enough to supply around 131,000 households, and saving over 383,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions each year.

“Gibson Bay is the second wind farm we have brought to life in South Africa, our first being Nojoli, further demonstrating our commitment to a low-carbon energy future,” said Enel Green Power South Africa country manager William Price.
