A faster, cheaper and quieter method of installing pilings for offshore wind using vibration is being researched at a test site Altenwalde, near Cuxhaven in Germany.
Led by German utility Innogy, work is underway to establish more details of the load-bearing characteristics some two years after the vibration and hammering technique was first employed on six 21m-long piles, each more than 4m in diameter.
