Russia could nearly quadruple the volume of renewables in its national energy mix by 2030 if it ups the contribution of wind and solar power, according to new calculations from the International Renewable Energy Agency (Irena).

Presenting its Renewable Energy Prospects for the Russian Federation report to a high-level stakeholder meeting in Moscow involving the Ministry of Energy, Irena director general Adnam Amin said the current 3% of power contributed by renewables could be ratcheted up to more than 11% by the end of the next decade.
