Brazil’s National Development Bank (BNDES) has earmarked R$200m ($63m) to finance 297MW of clean energy projects to replace existing polluting off-grid generation in the Amazon region.

A tender will be held in May, and the government already has 54 proposals in a process that allows wind, solar, natural gas, biogas, small-hydro and biomass projects to bid.

The off-takers are local companies controlled by federal power group Eletrobras.
