Sweden’s Vattenfall has signed a deal with the BMW Group to acquire up to 1,000 lithium-ion batteries this year to be used on wind farm storage projects in Europe.

Vattenfall will purchase the new batteries, with a capacity of 33 kWh each, from the BMW plant in Dingolfing and will use them in all its storage projects.

The first energy storage project to use the batteries is being built at the 122MW Princess Alexia onshore wind farm near Amsterdam.
