Siemens has erected a prototype of its new low wind turbine, the SWT-3.15-142 for IEC class III projects, at the Drantum wind test site in the Danish region of Jutland, and expects to enter serial production of the model by the end of this year.

The turbines is the first Siemens model to be equipped with rotor blades based on hybrid-carbon technology, and the company is outsourcing blade production to Danish blade maker LM Wind Power which US industrial giant GE is in the process of purchasing in a deal slated to close during the first half of 2017.
