The 50MW Kincardine floating wind power project has been given the go-ahead by the Scottish government, giving further momentum off Britain to the fast-emerging offshore technology.

Planning consent for the landmark array, being developed in water depths of 45-143 metres some 15km off Aberdeen by Pilot Offshore Renewables, covers eight 6MW as-yet-unspecified turbines mated to concrete floating foundations – understood to be coming from Germany’s ACS Cobra – slated for switch-on by 2018.
