Canada’s Algonquin Power & Utilities bought enough wind components in 2016 to qualify as much as 700MW of future capacity for the full production tax credit, with plans to build US wind farms for both its independent power producing (IPP) arm and its regulated utilities business.

Algonquin locked down as much as 700MW of fully PTC-eligible wind turbines and is “committed to strengthening our position in the US renewables market”, Algonquin chief executive Ian Robertson said in a recent conference call.
