Sharyland Utilities is proposing expansion of transmission capacity in the northern Texas Panhandle to at least 4.8GW, in anticipation that the region will remain among the hottest wind investment plays in the Americas for several more years.

Installed generation there already exceeds the initial 2.4GW that Sharyland completed in 2013 as part of Texas’s landmark $6.9bn Competitive Renewable Energy Zone (CREZ) initiative, plus subsequent transmission upgrades to about 2.8GW.
