Westar Energy, the largest utility in Kansas, has completed its 280MW Western Plains wind farm, saying it can now meet about a third of its demand with renewables.
In 2015 Westar acquired the Western Plains project from California-based developer Infinity Renewables, tapping Siemens to supply turbines and Mortenson Construction to act as EPC contractor. Siemens has a nacelle factory in Hutchinson, Kansas.
