The Indian government has approved the doubling to 40GW of its large-scale solar park programme, maintaining momentum for its ambitious renewables push that also foresees a two-fold increase in wind capacity.

The cabinet of Prime Minister Narendra Modi agreed to plans that will see at least 50 projects with a minimum capacity of 500MW built across the country by 2019/20, backed by government funding of 81bn rupees ($1.2bn).
