The blades for the quintet of Siemens turbines that will make up the world’s first floating wind array – Statoil’s 30MW Buchan Deep project off eastern Scotland – have arrived at NorSea’s operations base in Stord, Norway, where the units will be assembled before making the North Sea crossing for installation later this year.

The 154-metre-diameter rotored SWT-6.0s, which are to be mated to cylindrical steel spar foundations delivered by Spain’s Navantia out of its Fene yard, are expected to generate 135GWh of power a year, enough to supply electricity to almost 20,000 homes.
