Corporations operating in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states can now purchase international renewable energy credits (I-RECs) as part of their greenhouse gas reduction and sustainability programmes, following the expansion of global energy consultancy ECOHZ’s green certificate portfolio.

The I-RECs – similar to the US REC certificates or Europe’s Guarantee of Origin, proving MWh of electricity consumed have come from renewables – are designed for companies that are moving toward a 100% renewable energy target, but in certain regions can only source fossil fuel-generated power.
