The European Union is on track to meet its 20% overall renewable energy target by 2020, but the UK, Ireland and Luxembourg are lagging behind in their individual national goals, a spokeswoman for climate and energy commissioner Miguel Arias Cañete told Recharge.
Renewables last year accounted for 16.4% of the EU’s final energy consumption, according to the commission’s latest renewable energy progress report due to be published tomorrow, the spokeswoman said, confirming an earlier report by the Reuters newswire.
