With a hydro capacity of 2.7GW, AES Tietê – the power generation arm of US utility AES Corp in Brazil – decided to enter the country's wind sector to mitigate its exposure to a single source of power in the face of increasingly uncertain rainfall, the company’s CEO told Recharge.

That – and widening the group’s global renewable energy base – were the main drivers behind AES Corps’ first foray into Brazilian wind since it first invested during the wave of privatisations of the 1990s.
