Brigitte Zypries has taken office as the new German energy minister after her predecessor Sigmar Gabriel stepped down in the wake of a cabinet reshuffle of Social Democratic (SPD) ministers that will see the latter become the new foreign minister.
The 63-year-old Zypries is expected to only stay in office until federal elections in September, after which the politician has said she doesn’t plan to seek office again.
