The world’s largest subsea power cable – the 385km, 2.2GW Western Link – is pulled ashore at Ardneil Bay in North Ayrshire, marking a key milestone in the £1bn ($1.25bn) ScottishPower/National Grid project.

The trunkline, which will carry power from offshore wind developments off Scotland to England and Wales, is the first interconnector with a high voltage direct current level of 600kV.
