Finnish drive-train specialist Moventas is investing €17m ($18.2m) to ratchet up manufacturing capacity to over 5GW at its Jyväskylä factory to meet growing market demand for its Exceed series gearboxes.
The spend, being made in co-operation with real estate company Jykes Kiinteistöt, will also go into expansion of its component manufacturing, serial production and new 6MW testing facilities.
“We designed Exceed to fulfil the market need for bigger gearboxes that could improve the life cycle cost of wind power,” states Moventas chief Arto Lahtela.
