Renewable energy resources in southeast Europe could be harnessed to ultimately develop a game-changing 740GW of output, according to latest calculations by the International Renewable Energy Agency (Irena).

A new study from the agency, published in advance of its annual assembly this past weekend, suggests Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro, the Republic of Moldova, Romania and Serbia house a combined 532GW of wind and 120GW of PV potential, with 127GW of this ready to be tapped “in  a cost-competitive way today”.
