Marubeni has scrapped plans to build a 125MW near-shore wind farm off the coast of eastern Japan.

The Tokyo-based conglomerate did not respond to requests to comment on why it has decided not to install 5MW turbines at a 680-hectare site off the coast of Ibaraki prefecture.

However, the Ibaraki harbour authorities said in an online statement that Marubeni has decided to halt development at the port of Kashima because it determined that the project would not be profitable.
