Swedish floating wind power developer Hexicon has handed Scottish contractor Global Energy Group the job of building the innovative 10MW twin-turbine Dounreay Trì demonstrator, which is in the frame for installation in the UK North Sea next year.

Go-ahead for the unit, which will be sited in 60-110 metres of water 6km out to sea from the Dounreay nuclear power complex, hinges on government approval of the project’s planning application, but expectations are that a final investment decision will be reached by April, with commissioning slated for 2018.
