Almost 870MW in renewable energy capacity – including what could be Italy's first offshore wind farm – gained the right to support in a December 2016 auction that saw prices for onshore wind power tumble to €66/MWh ($69.4/MWh), figures from Italian energy agency GSE show.

Onshore winning bids came in at a price 40% below the base level of €110/MWh with support granted for 20 years once the projects are commissioned.
