Last minute amendments to Germany’s reformed renewable energy act (EEG) and offshore wind legislation – which come into force on 1 January 2017 – benefit the offshore and solar storage sectors, and could save consumers billions of euros.

The Bundestag, Germany’s lower house of parliament, passed an amendment that extends the permitted operational period of future offshore wind parks to 25 years from the 20 years allowed in a previous version of the law, with an option for a one-off extension of another five years.
