After years of development and construction, Deepwater Wind’s 30MW Block Island has begun commercial operations off the coast of Rhode Island, officially making it the first offshore wind farm in the Americas.
For years it appeared Cape Wind would be the project to achieve that distinction, but Deepwater pulled through as the much larger Cape Wind became bogged down by legal challenges and an inability to secure off-take agreements for its full capacity.
