One of the five General Electric Haliade turbines installed at Deepwater Wind’s Block Island offshore project is down for repairs, after a stray drill bit was left inside the nacelle during installation.
On Friday Deepwater Wind said that during routine testing a forgotten drill bit was discovered to have caused “some damage” in the 6MW Haliade’s permanent-magnet generator. The necessary repairs will cause a “minor delay” in bringing the turbine online, the developer says.
