Finland will drop coal from its energy mix and introduce technology-neutral tendering for renewable electricity under an ambitious new climate and energy strategy.

The moves are part of a policy roadmap – the National Energy and Climate Strategy 2030 – launched today, and designed to lay groundwork for Finland transitioning towards an economy based largely on renewable energy by 2050.

The strategy includes the intermediate target of achieving a renewable energy share in final energy consumption of 50% by 2030, up from around 39% today.

The
