The UK Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Catapult’s Levenmouth demonstration turbine will be brought into R&D service by Ocean Array Systems (OAS) to validate turbulence-load software that could cut the levelised cost of energy of offshore wind by as much as 2.4%.

The 7MW turbine, located in the shallows off Methil, Scotland, will be loaded with OAS’s TurbineGRID simulation suite as part of the Asset Life Extension of wind turbines (Sale) project, which aims to develop better models of how offshore turbines respond to atmospheric turbulence, stability and wake interaction at both individual and farm level.
