The US Department of the Interior (DOI) has finalised a rule governing solar and wind energy development on public lands, creating a competitive leasing process for the first time for renewables.
DOI’s Bureau of Land Management (BLM) says it is formalising key aspects of its existing Smart from the Start approach to renewable energy development, which strives to eliminate potential resource and wildlife conflicts before awarding of commercial development leases.
