Germany’s government in a last-minute deal gave the green light to a watered down 2050 climate protection plan to avoid letting environment minister Barbara Hendricks travel to the UN climate conference in Marrakesh next week empty handed.
Berlin sticks to its plan to reduce its green house gas emissions by 2050 by 80-95% compared to 1990 levels, and for the first time introduces sector targets that indirectly increase the pressure to phase out coal in electricity generation and combustion engines for cars.
