The 700-mile (1,130km), 600kV overhead line will move 4GW of low-cost electricity generated by wind farms in the western Oklahoma Panhandle to utilities and customers in neighbouring Arkansas, Tennessee and other markets in the Mid-South and Southeast.

In late March, the Department of Energy (DOE) approved the project, designated a preferred route and agreed to participate in its development. It is the furthest advanced of four planned wind-related EHV direct-current power-line projects.
