Following Brazil, Chile, Mexico and Argentina, this nation of 48 million, squeezed between the Caribbean and the Andes foothills, is dusting off legislation passed in 2014 to speed up the exploitation of its renewable resources.

In 2017, it could be ready to hold the first auction for 1.4GW of renewables in the Caribbean department of La Guajira, after the government finishes consultations and tenders a $700m transmission line linking the region to the grid.
