Overall, wind developers registered 799 projects spread mainly in the northeastern states of Bahia (6.2GW), Rio Grande do Norte (5.1GW) and Ceará (1.96GW). Another 3.1GW were registered in the southern-most state of Rio Grande do Sul.
Solar developers registered a total of 393 projects more widely spread throughout Brazil. Bahia again leads with 2.86GW of solar projects, followed by Piauí, also in the northeast, with 2.1GW and 1.6GW of solar in Rio Grande do Norte.
But southeastern states such as São Paulo – Brazil's industrial hub – received 1.3GW of projects and Minas Gerais 890MW of solar.
The interim government has already cancelled an auction including solar in late July, and said it will hold only one tender by the end of the year.
It is still not clear if the guidelines for this reserve tender in October will be changed.
The interim mines and energy ministry has been questioning whether reserve tenders – through which the government contracts stand-by power independent of demand from distributors – will be need to be maintained.
Last week, interim energy planning and development secretary Eduardo Azevedo said that new guidelines for this year's final tender would be published by the end of July.
