The so-called Clean Energy Standard is expected to fuel huge demand over the next decade for onshore and offshore wind, large- and small-scale solar, and hydropower imports from Canada, in addition to offering a lifeline to three endangered nuclear plants in upstate New York.
In unanimously approving the 50% standard, New York’s Public Service Commission threw its weight behind Cuomo’s push to make New York a hotbed of renewables development and innovation to rival California on the national stage, as well as a global leader in the fight against climate change.
