Dong justifiably claimed an offshore wind industry milestone when it won the 700MW of offshore wind capacity off the Netherlands at a record-low price of €72.70/MWh ($81/MWh).
The rate was startlingly low, and even when grid connection costs are included Dong is able to claim it has broken the industry’s landmark target of €100/MWh.
Quizzed on Borssele as he discussed Dong’s half-year results, Poulsen insisted that there was no question of the company winning with a rate that wasn’t viable.
