When asked at a WindEnergy Hamburg press conference yesterday if such a move was being planned by the European Commission, Maroš Šefčovic, the EU's vice-president in charge of energy union, declined to answer the question directly, instead saying there should be "no discrimination between new and old [energy] technologies".

"In some countries you have priority dispatch for renewables, but in some countries you have priority dispatch for coal, and other sources of energy," he said.
